Description

The Lincoln Cent, Wheat Ears Reverse design was minted from 1909 through 1958.  The first year of issue honored the centennial of the birth of President Lincoln. For the first coins issued, the initials of the designer--Victor D. Brenner--can be seen a the bottom of the reverse. Due to a public outcry for the initials being so prominent, the initials were removed for the later coins minted in 1909, and the initials did not return to the design until 1916, when they were put in the truncation of the bust.
